The first of two tracks from Stars forthcoming  No One Is Lost album (due out October 14). This quasi-title track finds Amy Millan on lead vocals and features the kind of life affirming nostalgia that many of the best Stars songs tap into. Specifically, ‘Turn It Up’ recalls images of the first day back at school as summer recedes into memory; lying on the floor, listening to music with your headphones on; seeing someone’s face for the first time. The chorus is particularly beautiful.

Blonde Redhead ‘Dripping’

Now they return, four years after Penny Sparkle with a new label (Kobalt) for ninth album Barragán and what seems like it may be something different again. The haunting instrumental No More Honey had an almost Rick Wright feel to it, while this slow but danceable number feels like it wouldn’t be out of place on a Caribou album.

PMB’s Liberation! is the third album released by a former member of The Walkmen so far this year, following on from Hamilton Leithauser’s indie-lounge croon Black Hours and Walter Martin’s guest-star-heavy family album We’re All Young Together. Just as good and idiosyncratic as those other two releases, it’s an album informed by Eastern religion, intellectual agnosticism and Jungian psychology and has a hyper, ramshackle charm. The only good thing about the Walkmen splitting up is that we now get (so far) three great new albums instead of just the one.
